TMs and how to learn exclusive moves (Elite TMs and Community Day moves)

- Fast TMs and Charged TMs change a move at random, and they can't teach exclusive moves such as Community Day moves.
- Elite Fast TMs and Elite Charged TMs let you pick the move to change to, and they can teach most exclusive moves.
- You can only learn exclusive moves by evolving during an event or with an Elite TM, so check the star marks in the site's move lists and use them wisely.
Four kinds of TMs
| TM | What it does | Exclusive moves |
|---|---|---|
| Fast TM | Changes the Fast Attack to another move at random | Can't teach |
| Charged TM | Changes a Charged Attack to another move at random (if it has two Charged Attacks, you pick which one to change) | Can't teach |
| Elite Fast TM | Changes the Fast Attack to a move you choose | Can teach most |
| Elite Charged TM | Changes a Charged Attack to a move you choose | Can teach most |
Some past event moves can't be learned even with an Elite TM.
Where to get them
- Fast TMs and Charged TMs: raid and GO Battle League rewards, and some research rewards
- Elite TMs: rarely, from Community Day boxes (paid) or some event and research rewards
What exclusive moves are
They're moves you can't learn the normal way right now, like Community Day moves. On this site, they're marked with a star (*) in the 'Moves' tab of each Pokémon's detail page and in the raid recommendation tables.
There are two ways to learn them.
- Evolve during an event: Evolve the Pokémon within the announced time, such as on Community Day, and it learns the move (Community Day prep checklist).
- Elite TM: Choose the move and teach it to a Pokémon you already have.
Using them wisely
- Elite TMs are rare, so use them on Pokémon whose raid or PvP rankings rise a lot with the exclusive move. You can see the difference moves make in the move combination rankings in the 'Moves' tab of the detail page.
- Regular TMs are random, so you may need several before you get the move you want. The fewer moves a Pokémon can learn, the sooner it shows up.
- If you unlock a second Charged Attack (Stardust and Candy), you use fewer TMs and can use both moves. The cost is listed under 'Basics' on the detail page.
Shadow and Purified Pokémon
- A Shadow Pokémon's Frustration can't be removed with a TM, and can only be changed during specific events (Shadow Pokémon: when to purify).
- Even an Elite Charged TM can't teach Frustration or Return.
Checklist
- List your main Pokémon that need exclusive moves (starred)
- Use Elite TMs only on Pokémon whose rankings rise a lot
- Check the Community Day evolution deadline

- How to earn and save StardustStardust goes into power-ups, second Charged Attacks and trades, so you'll always be short. Deciding where to spend it first is the biggest way to save.
- How to use Candy and Candy XLYou collect Candy by catching, transferring, walking with your buddy, trading and hatching, and from level 40 you power up with Candy XL.
- What to power up first (power-up priorities for beginners)Stardust is limited, so first power up strong counters you'll use for a long time across many raids.
- How to raise your Trainer level fast (earning XP)The fastest way is to activate a Lucky Egg (2× XP for 30 minutes) and do your evolving, catching and raids all at once.
- Shadow Pokémon: when to purifyShadow Pokémon have 1.2× Attack but also take more damage, and they cost 1.2× Stardust and Candy to power up.
- Evolution items and the Pokémon that use themSome Pokémon need an evolution item on top of Candy to evolve. The Sinnoh Stone is used for 18 species and the Unova Stone for 7.
- Every way to evolve Eevee (nicknames, Lure Modules and buddy)Eevee evolves into one of 8 Pokémon for 25 Candy, and you can choose the evolution you want by meeting its condition.
- Egg hatching guide (Eggs by distance and incubators)Eggs come in distances such as 2, 5, 7, 10 and 12 km. Put one in an incubator and walk that far, and a Pokémon hatches.
- Buddy Pokémon guide (Candy distance and Best Buddy)Walk with the Pokémon you set as your buddy and you get its Candy every set distance (1, 3, 5 or 20 km), which depends on the Pokémon.
