How to tidy up your bag and Pokémon storage
Getting startedLast checked 2026-10-31
In 3 lines
- Your bag (items) and Pokémon storage have a set number of slots, and you can add 50 slots at a time with PokéCoins in the shop.
- Once they're full, you can't receive new items or Pokémon, so it's a good idea to clear space before an event.
- Transfer Pokémon based on their IVs and how you'll use them, and keep the items you use often, mainly balls and berries.
Adding slots
| Upgrade | Extra slots | Where to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Bag Upgrade | 50 | Shop (PokéCoins) |
| Pokémon Storage Upgrade | 50 | Shop (PokéCoins) |
| Postcard Book upgrade | 50 | Shop (PokéCoins) |
You can earn up to 50 PokéCoins a day for free by defending Gyms (Gyms and PokéCoins).
Sorting your Pokémon
- Keep: high-IV Pokémon, Pokémon you'll use in raids or GO Battle League, shiny and Lucky Pokémon, and Pokémon you're collecting Candy for so you can evolve them.
- Transfer: low-IV duplicates of the same Pokémon. You get 1 Candy for each transfer, and from level 31 you sometimes get Candy XL too.
- Check IVs on the appraisal screen or with the IV calculator.
- For GO Battle League, a Pokémon with few stars can still be useful if its Attack is low and its Defense and HP are high, so check the PvP rankings first (How to pick IVs for PvP).
Sorting your items
- Keep plenty of Poké Balls, Great Balls and Ultra Balls, plus Razz Berries and Pinap Berries.
- You only need lots of Potions if you do raids and Gyms often. If you rarely use them, you can cut back.
- Don't throw away valuable items like evolution items, Star Pieces and Lucky Eggs (Evolution items and the Pokémon that use them).
Checklist
- Free up space in your bag and storage before an event
- Transfer low-IV duplicates
- Keep valuable items
